The Airspace button overlays charted airspace in Canada and the United States from bundled GeoJSON underlays, rebuilt from published OpenAIR exports:
Currency: upstream OpenAIR exports are checked daily. When they change, refreshed GeoJSON is written to a local cache on the server (bundled files in the site repository are not modified). The map uses the cache when healthy; otherwise it falls back to bundled data.
Amendments after the dates above may be missing until the next successful update. Always treat the overlay as potentially stale.
When airspace is on, a second row of buttons appears directly under the main toolbar. You can show or hide only these categories; each control turns the matching shading, borders, and labels on or off together: Class E, F advisory, B, Class C/D, and restricted / prohibited / danger / warning.

IFR en-route structures (airways, FIR, UIR, UTA, MTR, MTA) are hidden to reduce clutter that is rarely useful for free flight.
Labels follow the inside edge of each polygon, with ICAO class, identifier, name, and upper/lower limits (e.g. 12 500 FT MSL / GND or FL 180 / FL 125). They appear from zoom ≥ 9 and are collision-managed so roughly one label per polygon shows at a time.
These overlays may differ from official nav charts. Class designations, altitude limits, and sector boundaries come from third-party conversions (CanAirspace and SoaringData) and can lag official amendments. Canada data as of 28 July 2026; United States data as of 29 July 2026. Always verify airspace using current official charts, NOTAMs, and CARs/FAR before flight. This overlay is for situational awareness only and must not be used for navigation or pre-flight planning.
With Airspace enabled, tap Vertical profile on the category row under the toolbar, then click the map. A side panel shows charted sectors stacked by altitude at that point—ground elevation, coloured bands (matching the map overlay), and a list of class, name, and lower/upper limits. The same profile appears on the windgram Airspace tab for the open site.
The query uses the same bundled charted data as the map overlay at that location—GeoJSON underlays in Canada and the US. If nothing is charted there, the chart is empty. Flight levels are converted to approximate MSL for display.
Airspace varies across the map—sectors, limits, and boundaries can change over a short glide. The profile only reflects the point you clicked, so always cross-check with the spatial Airspace overlay on the map, not just a single vertical slice.
